This course is intended to provide a broad understanding of key issues and dilemmas of development and planning primarily in non-western countries. The issues covered in this course include the history, concepts and theories of development, a survey of development issues, the various scales at which development planning takes place, and the role of law in development as a force that shapes and constrains development planning. The issues covered by the course include the environment, gender, corruption, trade, property rights, ethnic tension, and post-conflict development, among others.
