URP 508 explores the intersectionality of race, class and gender in the context of the neoliberal metropolitan city. It seeks to unpack how the lived of people of color, especially blacks and Latinos, are structured and influenced by the metropolitan city building process under neoliberalism. Here, the goal is to understand how race is interwoven with socioeconomic issues that dictate where and how people live in the urban metropolis. Against this landscape of race and structural racism, the course explores the ways that planners can contribute to the building of the just metropolitan city.
